Thirteen new cases of COVID-19 in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan

South East Zone 4 has its highest single-day case count since late-May.

REGINA-There are 13 new cases of COVID-19 to report in South East Zone 4, which includes Estevan, according to the provincial COVID-19 dashboard.

The new cases bring the total number of active cases in South East Zone 4 to 19.

It’s the highest single-day number of new cases in Zone 4 since late May, and the highest number of active cases for Zone 4 since early June.

In an email to the Mercury, the Saskatchewan Health Authority said most of the cases are from the Estevan area, and stemmed from a large, private event. 

Zone 4 encompasses a large area of the southeast that extends from Torquay to the Manitoba border along Highway 18, Stoughton to the Manitoba border along Highway 13, the U.S. border to north of Stoughton on Highway 47, and the U.S. border to the White Bear First Nations on Highway 9, among other areas. 

There are also two new cases in South East Zone 2, which is north of Zone 4. The South East region now has 51 active cases.

One person is currently in hospital, receiving in-patient care, in the South East.

Fifty-six new cases were reported in Saskatchewan. Forty-eight more people recoveries, and 53 people are currently in hospital. A total of 503 cases are considered active.

There have been 50,251 COVID cases in Saskatchewan and 49,167 recoveries since the pandemic began.

Two more people with COVID-19 have died, bringing the total number of deaths to 581. One death was from the South West region and one was from the North Central.

A total of 1,764 more COVID-19 tests were processed on Aug. 5, including 93 in the South East.

And another 3,861 doses of vaccine were administered in Saskatchewan, with 209 of those new reported doses in the South East.
