Tourism week May 14-21

Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson and Tourism Saskatchewan's Acting President/CEO Candace Phelps kicked off Saskatchewan Tourism Week at the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina.

Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson and Tourism Saskatchewan's Acting President/CEO Candace Phelps kicked off Saskatchewan Tourism Week at the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina. Saskatchewan Tourism Week runs from May 14 to 21.

The event includes a screening in the Kramer IMAX Theatre of Tourism Saskatchewan's "Embrace A New Place" television commercial. The new campaign encourages Saskatchewan residents to explore places that they have not yet had the opportunity to discover and includes a contest with a $5,000 build-your-own Saskatchewan holiday as its grand prize. A video from this year's Saskatchewanderer, Jeff Stock, will also be shown. Stock spent his first week on the job visiting many of Regina's tourist attractions, including the Saskatchewan Science Centre.

"Tourism week encourages Saskatchewan residents, as well as people from outside our province, to discover new places and events," Hutchinson said. "We are encouraging everyone to get out and explore the beauty of this province."

"Saskatchewan Tourism Week provides an excellent opportunity to broaden awareness about the importance of tourism in this province," Phelps said. "There are countless reasons to celebrate the success of Saskatchewan's tourism sector - one that plays a vital role in our province's economy, contributes positively to our image and holds strong potential for growth and entrepreneurial opportunities. Tourism Saskatchewan proudly acknowledges the efforts of destinations, businesses and communities throughout the province that are hosting Saskatchewan Tourism Week festivities. We encourage citizens to take part and, as our current campaign recommends, to Embrace A New Place."

Communities throughout Saskatchewan will be celebrating Saskatchewan Tourism Week with public barbeques, community tours, flag-raising ceremonies, open houses, contests and promotions.
