The Weyburn Triple C Centre fundraising committee members are encouraging residents in Weyburn and area to place a priority on the community aspect of the new facility.
With nearly 900 seats, the Centre, which is currently under construction, will hold twice as many people as the current concert facility at the Weyburn Comprehensive School Cafetorium. This will allow for greater community building and, according to Isabelle Butters, that is just as important as the other aspects of the project, if not the most important.
"We get lots of interest in the culture and convention, but we are not hearing from people who realize that this is good for the community," said Butters. "We need this in our community."
In an effort to promote community building and continue fundraising, the committee has been keeping its web site up to date, celebrating the donors and listing upcoming events.
"Our web site has some very valuable information, including all of the major donors with photos and links to their web sites," said Deana Mainil, Triple C Fundraising Committee Chair.
To explore the Triple C website, go to tripleccentre.com.
"We truly believe that having a facility like this in Weyburn will bring more events and business to Weyburn and our surrounding community," said Mainil. "People will be proud to host large events. Patrons will be happier to attend events where they can be guaranteed comfort with cushioned seats and improved air-conditioning, great visibility with inclined seating and state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems."
The Rotary Club of Weyburn, having recognized the importance of this new facility, will be holding a fundraiser on June 16, with a share of the proceeds going to the Triple C Centre. The first annual Rotary Lobsterfest will be held on Saturday, June 16 in the Weyburn Curling Rink. The menu will be a choice of a New Brunswick lobster, or an eleven ounce Saskatchewan beef steak. Tickets are $50 and can be obtained from any Rotary member or at Superior Office Products.
The Triple C will be hosting a "Giving Seminar" on June 23 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Legion Hall. The special speaker, financial specialist Regan Exner, will talk about ways people can maximize the benefits of the giving practices, whether they are donating money, investment portfolios, bonds or stocks. Many local financial advisers from financial institutions in Weyburn will be attendance and will be available to meet with interested parties afterward. Because refreshments will be served, it is important for interested attendees to RSVP to Louise Weger at 842-8915.
Donations to the Triple C can be made directly via the web site, or they can be sent via post to Triple 'C' Centre, Box 1615 Weyburn, SK S4H 0T1.
Plaque recognition at the Triple C will be given to donors of $100,000 (Diamond), $50,000 (Platinum), $25,000 (Gold), $10,000 (Silver), $5,000 (Bronze) and $1,000 minimum donation. Donors can also graduate from one level to the next over the span of the entire fundraising timeframe.
