At the opening ceremonies of the 108th Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Annual Convention in Saskatoon on March 12, Audrey Trombley was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan. The award was presented to Audrey by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, Her Honour, the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield.
Over the years, Audrey has been involved in business, administration and all aspects of rural Saskatchewan. After running her own business at Torquay Audrey began working at the Village of Halbrite, then the Town of Midale, then the R.M. of Estevan and the R.M. of Griffin. Audrey was never "just" the Administrator. Audrey's contribution to the R.M. of Griffin, the hamlet of Griffin, the Griffin community and Saskatchewan as a whole can never be measured in any way. She was/is involved in community events, agriculture, the farm crisis, rail transportation, oil and gas industry, education, health and the list goes on. Although Audrey retired from the R.M. of Griffin as of December 31, 2011 she continues to provide training and mentorship to new administrators and has also temporarily provided her administration services to R.M.s that find themselves without a current administrator.
Among her many achievements Audrey was the first female member of SARM (1994 - 1998), the first female President of the Rural Municipal Administrators' Association (RMAA) (1994 - 1998), the first female member of the Municipal Employees Pension Plan Board (1999 - 2003) and now the first female recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan. Also in May 2004 Audrey was awarded the RMAA Lou Jacobs Award for outstanding service to rural Saskatchewan.
Audrey was nominated by the R.M. of Griffin No. 66 and by the R.M. of Souris Valley No. 7.
The award was established in 1995 by Canada Post, SARM and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. The award is now sponsored by SaskPower, SARM and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. A selection committee reviews the nominations and selects one individual annually for his or her achievements in making rural Saskatchewan a better place to live.
