There are two new cases of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan to report, the Ministry of Health said Wednesday, and one of them is in the south region.
The south extends from the Alberta border to the Manitoba border, and includes most communities along or south of Highway 1. There are also some communities north of Highway 1 in the western half of the province that are considered to be part of the south.
Eighteen cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the south since mid-March, when the virus was initially diagnosed in this province, and two of those cases are considered active. The Ministry of Health did not disclose where the new case for the south was located.
The other new case is in Saskatoon.
A total of 658 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in Saskatchewan. Twenty-one, or about three per cent, are considered active.
A total of 624 individuals have recovered, which is the same as Tuesday. About 95 per cent of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in this province are considered recovered.
There is currently one person in intensive care in Saskatoon.
In addition to the 18 cases in the south, there have been 261 cases from the far north, 175 from the Saskatoon area, 112 from the north, 80 from the Regina area and 12 from the central region.
Fifty-one cases are health care workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances.
Ninety-eight cases involve people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults. A total of 233 cases are in the 20-39 age range, 199 are in the 40-59 age range, 110 are in the 60-79 age range and 18 are in the 80-plus range.
Of the 658 cases in the province, 145 cases are travellers, 395 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 78 have no known exposures and 40 are under investigation by local public health.
Fifty-two per cent of the cases are females and 48 per cent are males.
Thirteen deaths related to COVID-19 have been reported.
To date, 53,116 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of June 8, when other provincial and national numbers are last available from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 40,229 people tested per million population. The national rate was 52,029 people tested per million population.
