The University of Regina is one four Canadian universities to be listed in the Times Higher Education 2016 top 150 universities under 50 years old in the world.
“This is a positive indicator that the University of Regina is competitive with similar aged institutions in providing world class teaching, research, international opportunities and knowledge transfer benefits,” says Dr. Thomas Chase, provost and vice-president (academic) at the University of Regina.
“The rankings are one measure by which we can assess our performance against our global peers; however, our main focus remains on achieving our strategic plan priorities of student success, research impact and commitment to our communities, and our overarching priorities of Indigenization and sustainability,” said Chase.
This is the first year the University of Regina has been included in the top 150 under 50 since Times Higher Education started a separate ranking for universities under 50 years of age in 2012. The rankings are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings but give less weight to reputation. The average age of a university ranked in the top 200 of the World University Rankings is 213 years.
Times Higher Education started the list in recognition of the fact that younger institutions have not had a century or more to develop their reputation and an extensive alumni base, or to have amassed the property and wealth that institutions.
