The Estevan RCMP is investigating a vandalism incident that occurred at the Chow Practice Field near Woodlawn Regional Park.
Kevin Mortenson, the president of Penta Completions Estevan Minor Football, said he was notified of the incident, in which several spots were spray-painted, on Tuesday morning. The organization then phoned the RCMP and posted photos of the damage to social media.
He believes the incident occurred some time late on Monday or early Tuesday. The areas that were damaged are highly visible from the highway, and would have been reported.
One of the buildings at the practice facility and three signs were damaged by the vandals, who spray-painted the acronym ACAB (used to disparage police officers). Two signs were for sponsors; the other was a sign in recognition of the support of the late Dr. Dean Chow and his family.
Mortenson said he hopes incidents like this don’t discourage people from getting involved in the community.
In a post through the Saskatchewan Crime Watch Advisory Network, the Estevan RCMP confirmed that the incident at Chow Field was one of several that occurred overnight involving graffiti. Other incidents occurred in Roche Percee and the City of Estevan.
The graffiti explicitly and specifically expressed anti-police sentiments.
The RCMP and Estevan Police Service is investigating the incidents. If anyone has more information, please contact the Estevan RCMP at 306-637-4400 or the Estevan Police Service at 306-634-4767.
