Update: one dead following Tuesday accident on Fourth Street

The RCMP and Estevan Police Service responded to a pedestrian-vehicle collision on Fourth Street, Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the Estevan Police service responded to a vehicle and pedestrian collision in the 1200 block of Fourth Street, on the afternoon of Oct. 6. 

A westbound truck collided with two pedestrians who were crossing a crosswalk. A man, aged 74 and a female aged 69, were both taken to St. Joseph's Hospital by EMS. Both were airlifted out of Estevan with serious injuries. One was airlifted by STARS, and the other by means of fixed wing air ambulance.

At the time of the incident, EMS and fire department personnel and bystanders tended to the people involved in the collision. Police shut down Fourth Street for approximately two and a half hours, while they processed the scene of the collision.

The Integrated Traffic Unit helped with traffic control, and the RCMP Forensic Collision Investigator assisted with the investigation of the scene.

An investigation is underway, with police gathering witness statements and facts. No charges have been laid at this time. 

Oct. 8 Update:

The Estevan Police Service has confirmed this morning that the woman struck by a truck, in a collision on Fourth Street, on Oct. 6 has passed away at a hospital in Regina, this morning. 

Kathy Batke,69, was one of two pedestrians involved in a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the 1200 block on Fourth Street.

Sgt. Kevin Reed noted that the chief coroner is investigating the matter in conjunction with the EPS, and that no charges have yet been laid. The matter remains under investigation.
