Weyburn volunteer and Ukrainian cultural booster Stan Ganczar received the Community Recognition Award from the Saskatchewan Provincial Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress at a special ceremony held in November.
He has volunteered on 15 boards, either as a director or as a founding member, with much of his activities related to Ukrainian churches, language, culture and dance.
His activities have included serving as a board member of the Weyburn Care-A-Van Society, a councillor for the RM of Griffin for 29 years, president of the Weyburn and District Multicultural Council for 15 years, and president of the Weyburn and District Ukrainian Canadian Cultural Council as well as serving on the board of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress for Saskatchewan.
He has helped organize Ukrainian dancing and language classes in Weyburn, has helped facilitate annual Malanka events, and organizes the fundraising activities of Stan’s Perogies with several volunteers helping, and proceeds going to various non-profit groups in the community.
