In August 2009, Lisa Loustel and her husband Jordan were looking forward to the birth of their first child. Little Iyanna was born August 13, full term, just four days before Lisa's due date. Her heart stopped beating instantly once she was born. The Loustels, along with their family and friends, were heartbroken. The news of Iyanna's passing touched the community of Weyburn and an outpouring of support was given to the grieving family.
Iyanna Loustel would have celebrated her fifth birthday last month. As a tribute to their little girl and all other babies that have left their families too soon, the Loustels have organized A Walk to Remember.
"The Family Place has been an incredible source of support to us. It seems very fitting that we included this organization in our plans to do something special and to help them in the amazing work that they do." Lisa posted on the event's Facebook page.
"On September 28, 2014, we will be hosting a five km walk to pay tribute to our infant daughter and all children and families who share a similar tragic story."
The event begins at The Family Place with a balloon release at 12:00 noon. Balloons can be purchased for $1.00 in memory of loved ones. The walk will immediately follow. A barbecue and children's activities will complete the day.
Registration forms are available at The Family Place (306-842-7477) or by contacting Lisa at 306-861-2600 or emailing her at [email protected].
All proceeds from the event will be going to The Family Place. Prizes will be given for the top three fundraisers.
