The Carlyle RCMP detachment responded to several calls between Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 21.
Golf Carts
Staff Sgt. Darren Simons would like to remind residents of Carlyle: “There is a town bylaw which allows residents of Carlyle to drive their golf carts to and from the local golf course. However, people have to realize that provincial statutes do not allow golf carts on any roadway.”
“We don't mind acknowledging the local bylaw, but golf cart owners must be aware that in case of insurance and liability, provincial statutes override the municipal bylaw.”
“If we receive complaints of people abusing this bylaw, we will be obligated to enforce the provincial statutes,” adds Simons.
“Regarding safety, I would also like to remind members of the community that a valid driver's licence is required to legally operate a golf cart. In addition, golf carts are designed to carry two people – and there should never be a child in a cart on someone's lap.”
