Weyburn’s Communithon committee has been working behind the scenes for two months during the COVID-19 emergency situation, by meeting with committee chairs and potential community agencies via email during March and April. The deadline for Community Agencies to apply for funding for the 2020 Communithon was May 1, and there were 11 applications received.
With respect to the fact that the government is slowly re-opening the province and lifting restrictions, the Communithon committee will be hosting a face-to-face meeting on Tuesday, May 19, with the committee chair representatives, so that the committee can continue to discuss goals and objectives for the 2020 Communithon.
The committee will also be meeting with their 11 community agencies, offering a Zoom connection, to discuss expectations and responsibilities with these community agencies.
The agencies for 2020 include Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian Red Cross, Community Low Income Centre, CNIB Foundation, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, Inclusion Weyburn, Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan, Weyburn Care-a-Van, Weyburn Special Care Home Auxiliary, and the Weyburn Youth Centre.
The goal of the Communithon committee is to continue to plan for the 2020 Communithon, which will tentatively be held at the Weyburn Royal Canadian Legion on Friday, October 23.
The committee is also discussing alternative ideas and opportunities, in case COVID-19 restrictions are still in place in October.
The Communithon committee is dedicated to ensuring that their community agencies receive the funding and support they require, so that they can provide necessary programming and services to residents in the Weyburn area.
The Communithon committee welcomes community involvement and other volunteers to join the committee. Follow their Facebook page or visit their website at www.communithon.comto find out more information on how you can help the Communithon committee plan for the 2020 Communithon.
