Submitted - Athletics focus on two areas this week. On the weekend the junior girls' volleyball team will be hosting an eight-team tournament in the Cugnet Centre. Come out and support these upcoming events. There will be teams from Radville, Weyburn Junior High, Fillmore, Midale, Yellow Grass, Regina Luther and Arcola.
At the last minute, Weyburn was awarded the 3A Regional Girls' Soccer playoffs. The event will take place this Friday and Saturday at Jubilee Park using the field directly east of the Weyburn Junior High. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth ranked teams will play Friday (October 17) at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The semi-finals will be Saturday (October 18) morning at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. with the final at 3:00 p.m. At press time, six teams will be here in Weyburn - Yorkton Regional, Balgonie Greenall, Moose Jaw Peacock, Estevan Comprehensive, Swift Current Comprehensive and the host, Weyburn Eagles. With interest heightened by the World Cup, soccer is growing in our province and here is an opportunity to see some upcoming soccer stars. As this is an SHSAA event, admission of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students per day will be charged.
Moose Jaw Football League quarter finals will get underway on October 18 but Weyburn's position in the playoffs has not been determined yet.
The senior girls' volleyball team is in a tournament at Saskatoon St. Joseph's and the boys' team at Regina Campbell this weekend.
The school also had a great experience on October 9, when the radio stations in Weyburn broadcasted from the school all day and then did the football game. The day was filled with interviews, readings, performances and the like.
The Cugnet Centre hosted an extremely successful recognition night on October 6, along with the first Concert Series performance on October 5, drawing upwards of 600 people.
Student Services took a group of students to "What is Engineering?" at the U. of R. on October 14.
