The Weyburn Multiple 4-H Club has been busy over the past few months, both in their projects and as a club.
As a club, members have been involved with several events, and several more are being planned.
The club members helped with setup and take-down, and supper cleanup, for the Weyburn Wildlife Federation’s annual awards banquet held on March 11. The federation has donated an extra $1,500 towards club shirts, which have now been given to the members and leaders.
On March 25 the club was part of a 100th day celebration at Giant Tiger, to celebrate 100 years of 4-H in Saskatchewan. Mayor Marcel Roy and Giant Tiger store manager Darcey Krahn were there to cut cakes. There were hockey pucks and handouts, as well as a draw on a blanket, with Sask. 4-H lottery tickets on sale.
A barbecue was held at Peavey Mart on April 8 as a fundraiser. A fun day was held on April 20 at the bowling alley for all 4-H clubs in the area, hosted by the Brokenshell 4-H club. A second fundraising barbecue was held by the club at South Country Equipment during their Green Days event, and South Country matched the $500 raised as a donation to the club.
The club will be selling Sask. 4-H lottery tickets until July 9 for anyone interested in the variety of prizes.
The individual project areas of the club have been busy as well, with important days coming up for the members.
The Light Horse members held a couple of ride days, and set the date for their Achievement Day on Sunday, July 2, at the Southeast Regional 4-H Show in Weyburn.
Cloverbuds made birdhouses, planted seeds and attended a small animal sale. The baking members made pies and decorated cakes for the 100th anniversary celebration of Sask. 4-H. The photography-scrapbooking members did book work and picture-taking.
The K9 group did books, attended Pet Valu’s wiener dog races and a small animal sale. The geo-caching, bugs and animal tracking group made a bug farm, did geo-caching at North Weyburn and Qu’Appelle, made track casts in the snow, and went to a fish hatchery.
The Crops group had a day with Farmers Edge, PDSL and Gibbs seed-cleaning, learning cleaning seeds and testing as well as soil testing. The members have been helping in the fields with seeding, and will hold their Achievement Day in October after harvest.
At the Weyburn Fair, to be held on July 3-5, the club will be setting up a 4-H display as well as having a float in the parade on July 3. The horse kids will hold their Achievement Day with the 4-H Horse Show the day before the Fair. The club members will also help with trash cleanup and the mounted shooting during the Fair.
The Weyburn club will have a club fun day, and will continue to meet over the summer, and are planning to hold an information night for anyone wanting to join in all the fun the club has through the year.
