Heading into the long weekend, the Weyburn Police Service wishes to remind everyone that Social Distancing and Maximum Group size is not an option – it is the law.

Social Distancing is the single most important activity, aside from hand washing, that we can all easily do to curtail the spread of COVID-19. The requirement is to be at least two metres away from anyone else at all times.  This includes riding in a vehicle where other passengers are not from the same physical address.  It would also include playing any sport or participating in any activity that would routinely bring you to within two metres of some other person from outside of your address.

Group size, outside of certain types of employment, is limited to 10 people in a single group or room unless all 10 are from the same physical residential address.

The police are responsible for the enforcement of the group size law. While we would hope that everyone does comply, complaints will be investigated and offences will be dealt with in a very serious manner with tickets starting at $2,800 and can range up to $75,000 when applied by the court in appropriate circumstances.

We realize that these restrictions may negatively impact what may be long-standing family events on Easter weekend. Please remember the sooner everyone stays at home and stops travelling the sooner this will all be behind us and we can resume our normal daily lifestyles – including family events. It is truly a small price to pay to ensure the safety of the entire community and especially the safety of those among us who are more vulnerable because of age or existing medical conditions.

Please enjoy the long weekend – but please stay at home and follow all the guidelines.

Please report any personal health concerns directly to 8-1-1 and follow their direction. If it is a health emergency please call 9-1-1.

Please report non-health related concerns to 1-855-559-5502. Group size concerns can be reported direct to the Weyburn Police Service at 306-848-3250.
