Nathan Cirillo, a reservist soldier shot and killed in Ottawa on Wednesday. Cpl. Cirillo was standing guard at the National War Memorial when he was shot, a short distance from Parliament Hill. The gunman entered through the main doors of Parliament, and was confronted and killed by House of Commons sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers. This incident was the second fatal attack on a Canadian soldier last week. Dave Katschke served as a reservist, and planned the impromptu ceremony to honour the fallen soldier.
