Wheatland Cattle Co., of Bienfait captured several of the major awards in the Simmental beef breed class at this year's Canadian Western Agribition.
Vern and Denise Lafrentz ,along with their sons Riley and Cody, operate the ranch that has produced cattle that dominated several classes. Their bull Wheatland 232Z captured the grand champion title while their Wheatland 202Z bull grabbed reserve champion status.
A cow/calf pairing was judged the grand champion Simmental female with Wheatland Lady 93X and 212Z.
The Wheatland team then went on to win the reserve champion title in the First Lady Classic with Wheatland Lady 145Y.
The Lafrentz siblings showed the champion and reserve champion in the Junior Beef Extreme class with Wheatland Ladies 2104Z and 145Y.
The Lafrentz family said they took 12 head into Agribition this year and when all the dust had settled in the Simmental category, they had the honour of once again being named the winners of the Premier Exhibitor and Premier Breeder Awards, titles they had captured on six previous occasions.
Denise Lafrentz said that Agribition is the only major beef exhibition they attend on an annual basis.
This spring Wheatland Cattle Co. will have between 125 and 130 calves born into the program as they carefully expand their operations.
