A wind warning is in effect for the Estevan area.

The warning was issued at 8:11 a.m. Saturday by Environment Canada. It states a low-pressure system moving south of the Canada-U.S. border will bring gusty winds to southeast Saskatchewan. Gusts of 90 kilometres per hour are possible.

Thunderstorm activity is also expected.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break,” the advisory said.

A special weather statement was issued at 10:27 a.m. Saturday morning, thanks to a low-pressure system in Montana that will bring some rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms to southern Saskatchewan.

The system is expected to track into the province Saturday night, bringing more widespread thunderstorms. This weather system will bring strong wind gusts at times Saturday and into Sunday, especially with the thunderstorms.

The Mercury will have more details as they become available.

Earlier on Saturday, a severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Estevan at 3:17 a.m. The watch remained until 8:12 a.m., when it was lifted. While thunderstorms rolled through the Estevan area overnight Saturday and into the morning, and the city has received some much-needed precipitation, the watch was never upgraded to a warning.
