Over $120,000 raised across Saskatchewan for Children's Wish through Wishmaker Walk for Wishes
The 11 Wishmaker Walk for Wishes held in communities across Saskatchewan proved to be a tremendous success. Families, community groups, volunteers and individuals came together with the single purpose of raising funds to grant the most heartfelt wish of Canadian children living with a life threatening illness.
A total of 97 walks took place across the country, raising an estimated $1.2 Million.
"Every year, Wishmaker Walk for Wishes is an event many of our wish families and supporters look forward to," said Gay Oldhaver, Saskatchewan Chapter Director for The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada. "Wishmaker is a significant fundraising event for Children's Wish and plays an important role in our ability to grant wishes."
With over 90 participating communities this year and 6,000 individuals, Wishmaker Walk for Wishes has raised over $10 million nationwide since its inception in 2005.
"Children's Wish recently granted its 20,000th wish and we currently have over 1,800 children whose wish has yet to be completed," said Children's Wish CEO, Chris Kotsopoulos. "The support of the countless participants, donors, volunteers and sponsors of Wishmaker Walk for Wishes help us meet that ever-increasing demand for our services. We are so grateful for their help in ensuring that children with a life threatening illness will experience the unparalleled joy that only a wish can bring."
Each year, thousands of Canadian children between the ages of three and 17 are diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Since 1984, The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada has worked tirelessly to grant exceptional wishes to over 20,000 children and their families.
This year, the Foundation expects to grant over 1,000 new wishes and is proud to have never refused a wish to an eligible child, and with the help of volunteers and generous donors, is able to grant nearly three wishes every day. Each wish is an individual adventure, carefully structured to meet the needs of a particular child and family. The Foundation is a national charity with chapters in every province and territory.
