How do you spell 2020? Well, for the Carlyle Novice Cougars (Chris) it starts with a W. On Jan. 4 the Cougars opened the regular season with a 16-13 win over Kipling.

The Cougars ended 2019 with a record of 6-7-0, giving them 12 points and in 5th place in the standings. The Cougars had three games before the Christmas break and they started in Kipling on the Dec. 20.

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings hosted the Melville Millionaires Tuesday night and it was just the kind of win the Wings needed to get them back on their feet.

The Power Dodge Curling Centre hosted the Last Chance Qualifying Bonspiel for the upcoming Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s provincial curling championships in Melville, and it proved to be a great weekend for two teams with local connections.

The Estevan Bruins had goals from nine different players in a dominant 9-1 victory over the host Yorkton Terriers Tuesday night. Yorkton actually opened the scoring, when Kaeden Taphorn scored 35 seconds into the game.

The Estevan Motor Speedway has released its tentative schedule for the 2020 season. The schedule features several double-header weekends this year and numerous other race programs.

The Rae Ann Williamson rink has punched their ticket for the Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts women’s curling provincials later this month in Melville.

With the festive season over, the Notekeu schedule kicked into high gear on January 3 and 4. Hodgeville won a pair, Coronach took 7-2 and the Senior Rebels earned 4-1.
