The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs senior boys and girls basketball teams came up just short in the annual McLeod Series games with the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles.

The week began right enough for the Junior B Rebels, when they defeated the Silver Foxes in Regina’s Doug Wickenheiser Arena with a 2-1 result on Thursday, February 13.

Weyburn and Estevan mixed teams claimed the championship in A and B side finals respectively, thus ensuring their spots at provincials. The Southeast District senior mixed curling tournament was held at the Power Dodge Curling Centre on Feb. 14-15.

Coronach beat Hodgeville on Valentine’s Day, February 14 with a score of 7-6.

Weyburn native son and offensive lineman Brett Jones of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFL is the subject of a documentary that will be coming out in the future.

The Estevan Junior Coaler Rollers season is getting underway. The roller derby program’s season began Feb. 6, and a recruiting session was held Feb. 9 at the Trinity Lutheran Church gymnasium. Another recruiting night will happen Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m.

The new Estevan Bears midget AAA hockey team has turned to another local person for their coaching staff. The Bears announced Saturday that Riley Hengen had been hired as an assistant coach for the club.

The members of Weyburn’s Special Olympics bowling team are excited and happy to be heading to Thunder Bay, Ont., soon to represent Saskatchewan at the Canada Winter Games for Special Olympics.
