Several local female hockey teams opened their seasons during the Thanksgiving long weekend.

A large contingent of local barrel racers was in Brandon, Man., for the recent Manitoba Barrel Racing Association finals, and a couple of them came home with saddles for having great results.

The Estevan Century 21 under-12 Chargers football team has continued to roll now that the playoffs have started. The Chargers trounced the Assiniboia Rockets 71-6 Saturday afternoon in a Moose Jaw Minor Football League quarter-final game.

The Estevan Bruins held the edge in play for most of the night, but had to hold on to get a 3-2 victory over the host Yorkton Terriers on Tuesday night. Yorkton opened the scoring at the 4:58 mark of the first period on a goal by Jordan Guiney.

The South East Aaron Well Servicing midget AA Gold Wings female hockey team opened their season by winning the Saskatoon Challenge Cup during the Thanksgiving long weekend.
