The Western Canada Summer Games started this week in Swift Current and Weyburn has three athletes represented on Team Saskatchewan. Zach Olson played on the Team Sask men’s basketball team.

The Weyburn Beavers were beat out of the first round of playoffs over the weekend by the Swift Current 57’s, ending their season for 2019. The 57’s had home field advantage for game one on Thursday.

Teanna Sieben found a love for box lacrosse a few years ago, and parlayed it into several outstanding seasons in the Estevan Minor Box Lacrosse Association, even winning an award for the Female Athlete of the Year from the Saskatchewan Lacrosse Assoc

The latest accolade for Shanelle Rioux on the football field will see her attend a festival during the Grey Cup in Calgary in November.

Estevan Special Olympics held the third annual softball game and a fundraiser at the Pleasantdale ball diamonds Sunday afternoon. About 15 Special Olympics athletes teamed up with RCMP, CBSA and Estevan Police officers to play ball.

Several new Estevan junior football team players gathered at the field south of the Estevan Comprehensive School Sunday afternoon for their first practices. Ethan Veroba was one of the first to register and start practicing.

Having previously lost to the Regina Dodgers on Tuesday, the Weyburn Iron Pigs pushed their best of three playoff series with the Dodgers to game three after beating them 11-7 at Tom Laing Park on Thursday.

The Southeast A’s U15 AAA baseball team won one of three games that they played at provincials in Saskatoon during the Saskatchewan Day long weekend. The A’s opened the tournament with a 7-1 loss to the Sask.

The Moose Mountain Marlins are the provincial baseball champions in the under-13 (U13) Tier 5 division. Provincials were held in Moosomin from July 26-28, with eight teams entered.
