The Estevan Lions Club bantam Oilers made a few big steps towards fielding a winning football team last week, but a couple of broken plays on offence and some untimely penalties cost the club their third defeat of the season.

A large and boisterous crowd of parents and peers gathered at the Estevan Collegiate Institute (ECI) monument at Cactus Park last Thursday to cheer on a group of cross-country runners competing in their first event of the season.

For the second straight week, the Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs failed to get up for the start of a football game. The Elecs lost 66-20 to the Yorkton Regional High School Raiders on Saturday at Yorkton.

The Estevan Comprehensive School (ECS) Elecs junior girls volleyball team finished second at their home tournament on Saturday, but the improvements they showed on the court had their coach excited about the result.

The Melville Millionaires presented the Power Dodge Estevan Bruins their first challenge of the season on Saturday at Affinity Place and the Black and Gold rose to the test.

Local baseball player John Gaab won a silver medal, while compete at the under-21 National Junior tournament. The tournament was held in Regina on August 18 to 22. Gaab was picked up to play on the Regina Optimist, who hosted the tournament.

The legacy of the Estevan 2016 Saskatchewan Summer Games was evident on the tennis courts this weekend.

The Oxbow Prairie Horizons Black Knights senior girl's volleyball team got off to a successful start to their season last weekend raking up a 5-2 record and ninth-place finish at the University of Regina Cougars' Hank Lorenzen Fall Classic Volleyball

The communities of Arcola, Carlyle, and Manor hosted a total of 15 volleyball teams on the weekend of Friday, Sept. 9, and Saturday, Sept. 10. This included teams from Arcola and Manor, as well as both a senior and intermediate team from Carlyle.

Motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to join in the 500 kilometre Cannonball run, which will be held on Sunday, September 18. The Weyburn group will meet at the Weyburn A&W for breakfast at 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 18 and leave at 9 a.m.
