Even though there was no school on Friday January 31st, these Cougars were up early for an 11:00 puck drop on home ice. Remembering the last time they went head to head with Wawota these kids knew they would have to be on their toes.

Although it has been a while since the last report, coaches Brian Hagel, Troy Turner and Todd Magotiaux continue to work hard with the team, keeping the players in shape and improving their hockey skills.

Revered across Canada; hockey is synonymous with being Canadian. At the local youth level teams have begun to take on provincial playoffs, with local peewee team the Carlyle Moose Mountain Impact recently taking on the Watrous Hawks.

Weyburn Southern Range Gold Wings goaltender Jane Kish was the recipient of the SFMAAAHL Third Star for the month of January. Kish saw action in five games in January posting a 4 and 1 record while allowing only six goals against during the month.

The Weyburn Red Wings are taking flight nearing the end of the season with seven straight wins. The Wings defeated the Estevan Bruins Tuesday night with a 4-3 overtime win and notching back to back shut outs at home over the weekend.

The sport of broomball has recently been growing in popularity. Many, however, have never played while others have in fact only heard of the sport.

The Power Dodge Curling Centre in Estevan held its open men's and women's bonspiels on the weekend. On the men's side, the team of Riley, Ken, Kevin and Lucas Wallewein defeated Adam Himmelspach in the A final.
