Led by a scoring attack running on all cylinders, the Estevan Apex Bruins took full advantage of their opponents on Saturday.

The nominations are out for the first-ever Best of Saskatchewan Roller Derby Awards, and two Weyburn women have made the list. Public voting is now open to determine the winners.

A weekend road trip to Kamsack yielded disappointing results for the Estevan PowerTech Panthers. The midget AA team lost 6-3 to the Flyers on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday in South Saskatchewan Female Hockey League action.

The Estevan TS&M Bruins faced two of the worst teams in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League on the weekend, and the results were predictable.

They did it the hard way, but the CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins got back in the win column on the weekend with a pair of come-from-behind victories at home.

Last year's Rider Pride Hockey Challenge event in Estevan was cancelled, but there was an extra item of baggage this time around that made the wait worthwhile.

On January 16th, the Cougars travelled to Oxbow for a regular league game. Since this was a late game our Cougars got off to a slow start with the Oxbow Huskies taking a lead on the Carlyle Cougars in the first period.

In the early 1900s a new sport formed in Canada. Thought to be the result of individuals wanting to play hockey without skates, broomball was created.

The Southeast Connection Sport, Culture & Recreation District will host a pep rally on Saturday, February 8 at the Weyburn Junior High School.

Two Carlyle youth have earned spots on the southeast district team for the Saskatchewan Winter Games to be held in Prince Albert in February between the 16th and 22nd, with a pep rally for Team Southeast to be held on Feb. 8th in Weyburn.
