Communithon is a wonderful way to give back to organizations by donating. These organizations provide programs and services that help make our community a better place.
We are hoping to raise $130,000 this year. Each year a few students are chosen to be ambassadors for the communithon. This year we are proud to be Communithon Superheroes.
Communithon is great in so many ways, it really brings everyone together. As superheroes we get the chance of visiting local schools to encourage kids to participate by making posters or by coloring the coloring pages that will be posted around town. We recruit children and adults to entertain our community and make a great couple days of the occasion.
It is a great way to get people from our community who aren’t normally involved to help make a difference, as organizations from all over our community challenge each other to raise funds. This year, and others in the past, communithon works in a partnership with ACCESS Communications which broadcasts on Channel7 and streams on the internet so everyone can watch even if they are unable to attend. Communithon relies one hundred percent on volunteers so it is crucial that members of our community are completely supportive. Mainly, our volunteers run the cameras, write receipts, and count the donations that come in. It is not a hard job, but makes everything run smoothly and efficiently and the United Way and its supporters are very grateful for everything our volunteers do for us.
Local businesses are our main supporters financially; they plan “special events”, and if they are successful, bring the money earned as donations when Communithon takes place. When Communithon draws to an end, all the money that is raised is given to organizations that provide necessary services to our community and are more than deserving of the money they are given. There are 15 members that make up the board and work above and beyond what is expected of them to ensure that the Communithon is a success. The board distributes the funds when everything is said and done and are passionate about everything they do.
As we previously mentioned, we are extremely excited to be chosen as ambassadors this year and are ready to make this year one of the best ones yet. We’re confident that we have what it takes to be valuable representatives and role models to the children in our community and our peers. It is a huge commitment to be a superhero, but is worth all the time put in if you consider the benefits it gives those in our community in everyday life. Communithon creates a feeling of togetherness that the community looks forward to every year, and it is extremely exciting that Communithon 2015 is right around the corner! We look forward to seeing everyone there, and are giving many thanks in advance to all our supporters.
