Every few years, it seems like Estevan finds itself in a position in which it needs more physicians.

As I pen these words, it’s Mother’s Day, and I’m blessed by the flowers, cards and words of my husband and our two sons.

The demolition of Estevan’s Civic Auditorium began Tuesday and I must say that I am sad to see it go. From countless rec. hockey games to cheering for the Bruins with my family, I have a lot good memories tied up in that old building.

It was an announcement that could have a big impact on our region for years to come. The provincial government announced on Monday that it was investing $175,000 into the proposed geothermal demonstration project near Estevan.

We knew the day was coming. It didn’t make it any easier. The demolition crews went to work on Tuesday afternoon to tear down the Civic Auditorium. And they moved quickly. Much of the old barn was in piles of wood and metal by the end of the day.

Cheers to the man who picked up and bagged all the winter garbage that was thrown into the ditches on the north side of Estevan and along Highway 47 in the rural municipality.

To celebrate life is the catch phrase at many funerals and aptly applied in the Toronto attack, where a frustrated madman mowed down people for 16 blocks with a van. There was no prejudice.

The timing couldn’t have been any better. CAA Saskatchewan released the final results for its worst roads contest last week, and two highways in the Torquay area, Highway 18 and Highway 350, were in the top 10.
