The Editor: This letter is not meant to be a wholesale criticism of how corporations use the two terms, fair trade or free trade. The latter may not always be free or fair.

The Editor: It seems city hall has finally placed all the blocks in the right direction and will be streaming ahead in a new direction, as the mayor keeps saying about all the hiring and firing in the past year or so.

The Editor: Imagine you are living in the age of cavepersons with a constant supply of water and food.

Within the next 48 days, Estevan’s citizens who take their residency in this city seriously, will be deciding who they want representing them at city hall as well as at the South East Cornerstone Public School Division and Holy Family Roman Catholic

Estevan is the envy of other Saskatchewan centres on a number of fronts. One thing I know for sure, those other communities get real jealous when they look over the fence and see us with our toys.

To quote a meme I saw on Facebook, “I didn’t see any participation ribbons handed out at the Olympics.” I did see countless dreams reached and watched as others failed to achieve what they had set out to do.

Saskatchewan residents can be forgiven if they have had their fill of elections. They went to the polls for the federal election last fall and for the provincial election in April. Now they are gearing up for the civic election on Oct.

It’s not often that I ever want to advocate taking a joke too seriously. I think, if anything, the world takes itself too seriously, as do and many people in it.

Most of us have a timeline that says things like, “By this time I will have this sort of job and make this much money;” “by this time, I will have kids;” and “I will retire by this age with this much in the bank.

This past week a friend, who also is a writer, asked me to prepare a letter of reference for her and I agreed; in fact, I was both delighted and honoured.
