WEYBURN – The Esso Cup Scholarship Committee has announced the recipients of this year’s scholarships, awarding two standout members of the AAA Gold Wings with the $1,500 each to support their academic and athletic pursuits.
Amy Swayze a dedicated goaltender from Weyburn, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions both on and off the ice. A member of the Gold Wings from 2022 to 2025, Swayze has been a passionate advocate for female hockey, volunteering her time to inspire young players in local elementary schools.
Known for mentoring aspiring goaltenders, she has helped develop skills and work ethic in the next generation of athletes.
This fall, Swayze will attend the University of Regina, studying Police Studies while joining the U of S Cougars hockey team.
Kiah Shields of Esterhazy, who served as Gold Wings captain in her final season, has been honoured for her leadership and commitment to the sport.
Billeted in Weyburn while her older brother played for the Red Wings, Shields devoted her off-seasons to coaching young players and representing Team Sask.
She will continue her academic and hockey career at the University of Regina, enroling in the Nursing Program and suiting up for the U of S Cougars.
The Weyburn Gold Wings is part of the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League.
