Weyburn Review

By Greg Nikkel The City of Weyburn is fine-tuning their off-site development levy, with more discussion held by council members on what should and should not be in the revised bylaw for the levy.

The backbone of the economy on the Great Plains, including the area of southeast Saskatchewan in the Weyburn region, has always been and always will be agriculture.

The Weyburn Police Service reported that over the course of the week there have been a number of Canada Revenue Agency and other scam calls again.

Weyburn Rotarian Deana Mainil picked out the three golf balls that fell into a designated hole as Brenda King wrote down the numbers, during the annual Golf Ball Drop. The Golf Ball Drop was held at the Weyburn Golf Course on Saturday.

The Weyburn Cobra Wrestling Club will be holding their registration for the upcoming season, at the Weyburn Credit Union Community Room on Monday, September 25. The registration will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield presented the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to cadet Kieran Ricard, a member of the Weyburn Legion 2302 Army Cadet Corps, on Sept. 17 at Government House.

Following the summer, the Weyburn Duplicate Bridge Club has resumed playing bridge twice a week on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. and on Thursday afternoons at 1 p.m. at the Wheatland Seniors Centre. All bridge players are welcome to come and play.

Sgt. Brent Vandesype and Const. Alyssa Kaczmar of the Weyburn Police Service presented a cheque for $2,500 to Pam Arndt-Schick and Colleen Morrice of the Weyburn Humane Society on Sept. 19.

Two upcoming fundraisers will be held to support a group of 12 fiddlers, from the Stoughton-Forget area, who will be traveling to Cape Breton Island in October to attend the Celtic Colours Music Festival.
