MOSSBANK — Cornerstone Gospel Church was the scene of a party on May 18. Streamers lined the door frame of the hall, and an arch of balloons framed with glass blocks spelling “baby” was available for photo sessions.
The friends and family of Taylor Kowalsky invited the community to share in welcoming Maverick to the family of Steve and Taylor as well as to the town of Mossbank. Their newest citizen was six weeks and three days old on Sunday.
A gift table was filled with festive bags containing all manner of baby paraphernalia. The head table was decorated, including a banner reading “Oh Baby” on the wall.
In response to the mother and father’s request, each package contained a book signed by the giver in place of a card. Maverick’s family wished to have the opportunity to think of the giver each time they read someone’s favourite book to their son.
Tables were filled with expectant mothers, moms with children, baby-carrying moms and women of the grandmother or great-grandmother seniority range. The afternoon party started with treats as everyone made their way to the snack table, picking up a napkin that read “baby shower” and filling it with selections. Someone was thoughtful enough to bring a gluten-free choice.
During the gift opening section of the two-hour party, Maverick made his rounds from one set of welcoming arms to another. It’s doubtful there was enough time for more than 40 guests to enjoy a turn with the baby.
Two obviously experienced young ladies who were also guests of the party took it upon themselves to entertain the children in attendance. As everyone stopped by the head table to wish the mother well, Taylor's son made his way back to his waiting mom. Young Maverick has officially been welcomed as the newest citizen of Mossbank.
