MOOSE JAW — Update 2: The Moose Jaw Police Service has arrested and charged a 69-year-old male with firearms-related offences following a police operation on July 14.
On Monday at approximately 12:20 p.m., police received a report that a man was missing and had last been seen at 7:30 a.m. that morning.
Police conducted a search and located him in a parked vehicle approximately three kilometres west of Moose Jaw on Highway 1.
Following the police’s arrival on the scene, the man exited the vehicle in possession of a firearm.
With the help of the MJPS’ crisis negotiators, tactical response team, and the Saskatchewan RCMP’s emergency response team, the man was taken into custody without incident.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
The male has been charged with several firearms-related offences and will make his first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court at a later date.
Police will not be providing any additional information at this time.
Update 1: The Moose Jaw Police Service had concluded their Police Operation on Highway 1. Highway 1 is now open to both directions of traffic.
MJPS says additional information about the operation will be released once it becomes available.
Original post: The Moose Jaw Police Service is currently conducting a Police Operation on Highway 1 between 9th Avenue NW and 32nd Avenue NW. Highway 1 is closed until further notice.
Police are asking motorists to avoid the area until the Police Operation is concluded. Traffic is currently being rerouted. The public will be notified once it has been completed.
