MOOSE JAW -- It didn’t take long for the Moose Jaw Mustangs to get back on track in Prairie Gold Lacrosse League Junior division action.

After suffering their first loss of the season last week, the Mustangs rebounded with a pair of victories, taking a 15-10 win over the Swift Current Wolverines on Wednesday and then downing the Wolverines 13-10 on Saturday night, with both games at the Kinsmen Arena in Moose Jaw.

As a result, the Mustangs are now 4-1-0 record and sit in second place, five points back of Prince Albert but also holding two games in hand. Swift Current dropped to 2-4-0 and are in fourth spot.

It was a bit of a tough start for Moose Jaw in their first game of the week, as they trailed 5-3 after the first thanks to a pair of goals by the Wolverines’ Shane Cornelson late in the period.

Things were back and forth as they come in the second period, with Moose Jaw scoring five straight in the first six minutes to go ahead 8-5, only for Swift Current to bounce right back and tie the game with three goals in three minutes.

The Mustangs then took control of the contest with four goals in the final five minutes of the period, taking a 12-9 lead. Three quick Moose Jaw goals midway through the third made things all but academic, and Moose Jaw would hold on for the win.

Cooper Bruce led the Mustangs with four goals and nine points, while Braxton Mac Angus had four goals and seven points to go along with a three goal, six point effort from Ryder Gilroy. Lukas Salikin, Riley Bender, Jacob Gyman and Nate Lewko had Moose Jaw’s other goals with Salikin also picking up four assists.

Cornelson, Ryder Turko and Grady Henderson all had a hat trick and four points, Carter Lamotte had their other marker. Riley Schafer and Isaac Froese added three helpers apiece.

It was a far better start for Moose Jaw in Saturday’s rematch, as a four-goal outburst midway though the first would lead to a 6-2 Mustangs lead after the opening frame.

They’d extend their lead to 10-5 through two, and hold off a late-game Swift Current surge -- including three goals in a span of 44 seconds -- to take the three-goal victory.

Gilroy led the way this time around with four goals and eight points, with Bruce putting up three goals and two assists. Carter Hudyma and Carver Ottenbreit scored a pair apiece, Mac Angus and Lewko also scored for the Mustangs. Mac Angus and Chase McKee added two assists each.

The Mustangs are back on the floor Wednesday when they host the Saskatoon SWAT at 8 p.m. at the Kinsmen Arena. Swift Current plays again Sunday, June 1 at home at 2 p.m. against the Weyburn Razorbacks.
