Day camp, swimming provided for February break in Weyburn

Weyburn and area children were able to take part in the February Break Camp at the Credit Union Spark Centre, from Feb. 20-23, plus families had free swimming available on Wednesday and Friday afternoon, sponsored by CUPE. The camp had a variety of recreational and art-craft activities each day during the week.

A wide variety of activities were available for Weyburn residents on Family Day Monday, with free swimming and skating, and activities at the Credit Union Spark Centre. There was an opportunity for children to meet the Paw Patrol, make bracelets, get their face painted, and to take part in demos for lacrosse and softball through the afternoon.

Over-50 curlers win first-ever Turner Cup for Weyburn Curling RInk

The Weyburn Curling Rink held their first-ever Turner Cup competition, pitting the over-50 team against the under-50 team, and the over-50 curlers emerged as the winners on Saturday. The team was captained by Bruce Miller, while the under-50 team was captained by Ryan Skjerdal.

A Family Valentine Dance was held for the families of the Weyburn Cooperative Playschool on Thursday evening, at the Upper Grace Hall. DJ Randy Bakaluk provided the music and lights, and donations were taken for the Weyburn Humane Society.

School and group tours are underway of the 40th annual James Weir People's Choice Exhibition at the Weyburn Art Gallery. These photos show a Grade 2 class from Legacy Park school being given a guided tour of the exhibit by curator Regan Lanning on Wednesday afternoon. Voting is on from now until March 17th.

Two wide receivers from the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Mitch Picton and Brayden Lenius, spent the day Friday at St. Michael School, playing games with them, reading stories and answering questions about their careers. They went from class to class to spend time with the students.

Weyburn's Assiniboia Park students, staff enjoy 'welcome back' dance

The students and staff of Weyburn's Assiniboia Park Elementary School had a "welcome back" dance on Friday afternoon, to welcome them all back from the Christmas-New Year's holiday break, with such favourites as the Macarena and the YMCA songs proving winners with the kids and adults alike.

Wildlife Federation rep gives presentation on wildlife to Wor-Kin Shop

Dale Paslawski of the Weyburn Wildlife Federation made a presentation on wildlife that can mostly be found in the Weyburn or surrounding area, to clients at the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop on Thursday. He had furs from coyote, fox, wolf. mink and a variety of antlers, along with tanned buckskin from a deer as he spoke about each animal and where they might be found.

Two Grade 9 classes from St. Michael School learned about playing the game of curling at the Weyburn Curling Rink on Wednesday. It's part of the curriculum for Grade 9, for students to learn a game they might continue to enjoy in later years of their lives.
