In-season crop scouting may not feel as rewarding as planting or harvesting a crop, but it’s just as important. And the earlier you start scouting fields for crop progress, the better.

One thing I’ve held an interest in for years is the preservation of bloodlines, and plant lines in agriculture. That is why I respect the efforts of groups such as Rare Breeds Canada (rarebreedscanada.org).

Tent caterpillars, or army worms, have returned to the Northeast with a vengeance. Many people are defending their trees from the caterpillars, who defoliate an area completely before moving on to the next stand.

It shouldn’t come as a great surprise that people base their positions on purely emotional responses, ones usually devoid of scientific evidence, solid reasoning, or at times even rational thought.
