CANORA - The Canora Cobras U7 Blacks Cross-Ice hockey tournament was held on Feb. 18 at the Canora Civic Centre with eight teams taking to the ice.

Jodie Kowalyshyn, U7 Blacks Manager, said in addition to the home team, participating teams came from Preeceville, Norquay, Esterhazy and Melville, as well as three teams from Yorkton.

“We had a total of 98 kids attend the tournament as well as many parents and fans.”

There were two games taking place at a time throughout the day, with each game utilizing half of the ice surface. Scores are not kept at this age group to encourage the players to simply focus on having fun.

Between games, players and spectators could also enjoy other activities

“We had had an amazing raffle table filled with several prizes donated by local businesses as well as businesses from surrounding communities,” said Kowalyshyn. “We also had loonie sticks and a 50/50 progressive prize.”

The U7 Canora Black Cobras have been enjoying a very successful season according to Kowalyshyn.

“All of our players have been dedicated and have shown huge progress since the start of the season. We have had many games with several different teams from across the area.”

U7 players have more hockey to look forward to, including a tournament in Yorkton on March 4-5, and a season-ending tournament in Melville on March 11.
