CANORA/STURGIS — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 20 calls from April 7 to April 13, some of which included: one traffic collision, two 911 Act, one missing person, two Mental Health Act, two assaults, one failing to comply with conditions, one criminal harassment, four traffic offenses, one mischief, one animal call, one fraud, two suspicious persons/vehicles and one criminal harassment.
Purchase fraud
On April 8, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were notified of a possible fraud involving the purchase of a skid steer through a private finance company. Police determined the private finance company was fake and was being run by a known fraudster in Alberta. Police continue to investigate.
Truck fire
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on April 9 to a semi-truck fire in Mikado. The Canora Fire Department extinguished the fire which is not considered to be suspicious.
Family fight
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call at a residence in Canora on April 9. Police attended and determined an altercation occurred between a mother and her son. The mother was intoxicated and was trying to make her son do chores and clean up, which he refused to do. The mother was arrested and lodged in cells until sober to prevent continuation of the offence.
Hurt & abandoned
On April 12, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint that an intoxicated male was kicked out of a vehicle and abandoned on the side of Highway No. 5 by Rama. Police attended and determined the male required immediate medical assistance. EMS was contacted and the male was transported to hospital.
Deer damage
A motor vehicle collision was reported to the Canora RCMP on April 12. The complainant reported swerving to miss a deer causing his vehicle to strike a Saskatchewan Department of Highways sign located on the shoulder of Highway No. 9 south of Canora. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Home safe
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on April 12 of a missing nine-year-old girl from Preeceville. The girl was located by her family shortly after the complaint was made. Further police involvement was not required.
Animal neglect
On April 12, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of starving horses in the Usherville area. Police attended and determined the animals required additional feed. Police continue to investigate with the assistance of Animal Protections Services.
