Canada Day Events in the Local Area

A guide to what's happening on July 1st

With this being the last week before Canada Day this Sunday, we thought we’d provide readers in Outlook and the surrounding Lake Diefenbaker region with a complete list of activities going on in your community area.

In Outlook, things kick off at 8:00 am with a pancake breakfast at the Heritage Centre that goes until 10:00, with a cost of $5 for those 13 years and older, $2 for those aged 6-12, and free for kids younger than 6 years old.  From 10:00 until noon, there will be a special fibre exhibit on display at the Outlook Art Gallery located in the town offices building.  At 10:30, a community worship service will take place at the Civic Centre.  Lunch will then be offered at the Co-op Marketplace from 11:00 to 1:00 pm at a cost of $5.  At 1:00, you’ll want to snag a good spot to watch the Canada Day parade make its way around town before heading over to the Jim Kook Rec Plex grounds for the Multi-Cultural Fair taking place (follow the balloons), where there’ll be a Canada Day ceremony and cake cutting and activities to enjoy until 4:00.  The fireworks presentation will take place behind the Rec Plex at approximately 10:30.

Down in the village of Elbow, a pancake breakfast from 8:00-10:00 am is kicking off the community celebrations at the rink at a cost of $10 for adults, $5 for kids 10 and under, and free for preschool ages.  From there, the annual Fish Fry takes place at the rink from 5-7 pm at a cost of $15 for adults, $10 for those 12 years and younger, and free for kids 5 and under.  A street dance on Elbow’s main street kicks off at 8:00 (beer gardens open at 7:00) with live music from the band ‘oooo la la’, offering musical covers of artists such as Meat Loaf, Heart, Loverboy and Stevie Nicks.  Fireworks will blast off at approximately 10:30.

Wherever you celebrate Canada Day on July 1, we hope you do it with Canadian pride!

Happy Canada Day to everyone out there in the Lake Diefenbaker region!
