The Canora Wheatland Lioness Club had an exciting time the evening of May 28, when they held Ladies Night at the Rainbow Hall. A total of 200 women came to the festivities, which included a dinner, prize draws, and a special performance by a Neil Diamond impersonator.

Bobby Bruce performed as Nearly Neil Diamond, and his tribute was focused on Neil Diamond’s early days, from his rise to stardom in the mid-1960s to his album The Jazz Singer, released in 1980. He stunned the club members with his vocals and stage presence, as well as his ability to connect with the audience in two long sets. The sets were crowded with hits and fan favourites such as Forever in Blue Jeans, Sweet Caroline, and Red Red Wine.

A dinner was catered by Matter of Taste before prizes were awarded to winners. Two raffle baskets were included in the prizes, featuring a Blue Jay basket with an authentic Blue Jays Donaldson jersey and a president’s basket with a Silpada necklace and scarf. A total of 136 jewelry boxes were also sold, most holding a pair of earrings but two featuring the prizes of Hillberg & Berk Jewellery.

The winners of the raffle baskets were Sandra Ostafie and Laura Tomcala. The 50/50 draw was won by Diane Bodnaryk, while Donna Lumley and Fayne Morrow won hanging baskets. Marie Kupchinski won a purse from the ticket door prizes, and the two jewellery winners were Caroline Koshalack and Charlene Thomas.

Proceeds from the event will be donated towards the purchase of new playground equipment for Canora Elementary School.

The Lionesses would like to thank Canora Greenhouse, Chautauqua Gardens, Canora Auto Electric, Penguin Refrigeration, Joan of Art, X-cessories by Kerry, The Flower Mill, Buchanan Black Box Payers, G.W. Construction, Carnation Street, and Kerry Ciesielski for their support in making Ladies Night a reality.
