KAMSACK — In a recent Ukrainian dance open house, a discussion revolving around organizing a dance class and planning future events for a dance group occurred between The Kamsack Times, Dawn Krawetz, and AnnaLee Parnetta the dance instructor.

Parnetta said, “We had 23 (dancers) last year. The average is 25 or 20 per year, is basically what's been happening. We had 23 dancers was last year, which was really good. One year we were so high, we had 16 adults, and 30 to 46 dancers. That was 10 years ago. That was when I stepped out in 2010. But I was teaching, I lived here. And I was teaching two nights a week. So we had the adults in the seniors on one night and I had the little kids up to age about 13 on another night. I lived here, I don't live here anymore.”

Krawetz said, “We’re always looking for dancers. You know, it's like every other year when you're doing so good. And then two years you don't, then one year you do really good again. So right now we're kind of competing with the school sports teams, because everyone's in high school. So it's basketball and volleyball and all that stuff that you get to do in high school now that they're in the bigger grades, right, when they're in the elementary, they don't do that stuff.”

She also mentioned that one of their shows will be during the Christmas season, “if we have our dances done, which we do this year because a lot of them we’re keeping from last year over to this year. We'll be able to dance at Christmas.”
