Coin recognizes 100th Grey Cup

A new one-dollar coin commemorating the 100th Grey Cup, Canada's single biggest annual sporting event, was recently unveiled by the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Royal Canadian Mint.

A new one-dollar coin commemorating the 100th Grey Cup, Canada's single biggest annual sporting event, was recently unveiled by the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Royal Canadian Mint.

"This new circulation coin immortalizes an important milestone in Canada's sports history and our Government is proud to join Canadians and Canadian football enthusiasts in celebrating the 100th Grey Cup," said Minister Flaherty.

"The Royal Canadian Mint's latest circulation one-dollar coin offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the 100th Grey Cup and one of Canada's most exciting annual sporting events," said Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. "Each of the five million 100th Grey Cup circulation coins will be a permanent tribute to the lasting legacy of professional football in Canada."

Canadians can obtain the 100th Grey Cup one-dollar circulation coin at participating Canada Post locations across the country.

Designed by Royal Canadian Mint engravers, this finely crafted circulation coin will be used during the coin toss prior to each CFL® game in the lead-up to and during the 100th Grey Cup game in Toronto on November 25, 2012.

As of August 28th, these numismatic products can be purchased at participating Canada Post locations, at www.mint.ca/greycup, by calling the Mint at 1-800-267-1871, by visiting the Mint's boutiques in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver or through the Mint's global network of dealers and distributors.
