The Yorkton Community Bands under the direction of Larry Pearen are ready to begin their new 2012-13 season. The forty piece concert band composed of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments is open to any individual who plays a musical instrument and has a love of performing. The community band which began in 1991 as a beginner band has grown to the community band of today. The adult musicians enjoy repertoire from concert marches to Broadway musical tunes to well-known classics.
The concert band performs each season in several concerts and community events including the Community Remembrance Day Service, a fall band and choir concert and several performances during the Christmas season. Spring performances include music festival, spring concert and a year-end concert.
The first rehearsal will commence on Tuesday, September 18 at Yorkton Regional High School Band Room at 7 p.m.
The Community Concert Band includes members from the communities of Bredenbury, Canora, Kamsack, Langenburg, Melville, Saltcoats, and Yorkton.
Yorkton's ALL THAT JAZZ, a twenty piece big band will also begin its new season as well. Featuring two vocalist, Jackie Washenfelder and Rob Zerr, this lively group enjoys performing throughout the community and recently performed at the Asessippi Music Festival. The big band rehearses on Tuesday evenings following the concert band rehearsals at 8:30 p.m.
"We look forward to beginning our new season with both these bands. Our adult bands welcome performance opportunities in Yorkton and area and always welcome new members". States Director Larry Pearen.
