Angelina Kardynal has been creating art for as long as she can remember, drawing inspiration from personal connections and experiences. And whether it is traditional paintings of family or reclaimed everyday objects repurposed with dramatic effect, each piece is a part of her.
"I will often look to the ordinary and try to capture the extraordinary that exists within it," she says.
Kardynal's art is the subject of the latest installment in the Yorkton Public Library's pARTners Gallery. It is her very first art exhibition.
"I've always sort of wanted to showcase it more publicly, but life just happens, so you don't really get a chance to focus on it, but then there's been a few local artists' shows and that sort of thing I've participated in and then from there the Arts Council asked me if I would put some of my pieces in a show here," she said.
Life happening, as she says, includes a husband and two children, Jagger, 9, and Willow, 7. She is a self-confessed hockey and dance mom, who manages to "spend a bit of my "free" time freelancing as a graphic designing artist."
Preparing for the show, Kardynal was a tiny bit nervous how it would shape up, but pleased with the result.
"It's very nice to see it up in one room all together," she said during an artists' reception March 15. "When I was working on it I thought none of this really goes together because it's quite a variety of different styles and approaches, but once you see it all together, you can see how it all ties together."
Also on display is a selection of the graphic design work Kardynal has done for various local organizations.
With the successful launch of the show Saturday, she remains humble about the possibility of also taking her fine art to a professional level.
"It would be nice, sure, enjoyment first and then if somebody would like to take something home and make it part of their collection, that would be nice," she said.
The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
