A 32-year-old Regina man remains in custody in Yorkton today following a court appearance March 17 on marijuana trafficking charges.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, RCMP stopped a white SUV driven by Joseph Belanger for a sobriety check. When Belanger rolled down the window, police allege there was a distinct odour of marijuana.
A subsequent search of the suspect and vehicle yielded six pounds of marijuana and $2,000 in cash.
Belanger was charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
In court Monday morning, Belanger was not represented by counsel and the Crown opposed his release.
Judge Patrick Koskie adjourned the matter to March 20 and ordered a bail verification report.
Prosecutor Shane Wagner requested an amendment to the information to add "not exceeding three kilograms" to the possession charge, which the judge granted.
Three kilograms is the threshold in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at which point mandatory minimum sentences kick in.
