A 27-year-old Yorkton man was denied release in Yorkton court Monday on numerous drug counts and a weapons possession charge.
On July 12, members of the municipal RCMP working with the Yorkton provincial General Investigations Section (GIS) conducted two traffic stops. Subsequent searches of the vehicles resulted in two people being charged.
William Crawford appeared before a judge Monday facing a cocaine trafficking charge as well as one count each of possession of cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine. '
He also had one count of possession of the proceeds of crime and a possession of a prohibited weapon (switch blade) charge. The weapons charge also resulted in a breach of probation charge.
Todd Wellsch appearing as agent for the federal Crown, opposed Crawford's release.
Richard Yaholnitsky, acting as duty counsel, asked the Court for a bail verification report including an evaluation of Crawford's suitability for electronic monitoring.
It was so ordered by Judge Ross Green, who set a bail hearing for June 19.
Thursday, police also charged Rene Watrych (32) of Bredenbury with one count of trafficking hydromorphone, one count each of possession of cocaine and hydromorphone and one count of possession of the proceeds of crime.
A justice of the peace released Watrych on a recognizance after she was booked. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance July 28.
