The arrival of spring means increased hours of daylight, warmer temperatures, and of course puddles. With the melting snow, motorists will notice that conditions of our well travelled roads and highways will be much more evident. Motorists will be able to identify and also vote for the worst roads in our province with the return of CAA Saskatchewan's Worst Roads campaign. And just what exactly defines a worst road? Typically these are roads that have potholes, cracks, are in general disrepair, have no or poor signage, as well as roads with little or no shoulder space or roads that are too narrow for motorists and cyclists to share safely.
The 2014 CAA Saskatchewan Worst Roads campaign starts April 1st and ends April 25th. This four-week campaign allows motorists to identify the roads that they feel are in need of repair or require attention. Motorists can cast their vote at www.caask.ca/worstroads.
The campaign will be monitored with updated information on which roads in our province are getting the top votes. The information will be made available via news releases, social media including Facebook and Twitter, as well as on caask.ca. As per the previous two CAA Worst Roads campaigns, the top 10 roads will be shared with the appropriate government bodies.
CAA Saskatchewan acknowledges the improvements made to Saskatchewan roadways for the safety of all motorists and travellers. But there is still work to be done and who better to help identify roads in need of repair than the motorists who rely on them every day for work, leisure and family travel.
During the 2013 Worst Roads Campaign, over 2800 votes were received and Highway 123 near Cumberland House was voted as the province's number one worst road. A complete list of last year's top 10 worst roads is also available at www.caask.ca/worstroads.
Working towards better roads and advocating for driver safety is a priority for CAA Saskatchewan. The Worst Roads Campaign helps put a spotlight on troublesome and even dangerous road conditions in the province and is one tool to help address those roads in most need of attention.
