The City of Yorkton has promoted one of its own to the city manager position vacated by Dave Putz on July 18.
Lonnie Kaal, a 20-year city hall veteran in the finance portfolio, takes over as the City's top bureaucrat August 4.
"After careful review it was determined that Ms Kaal was the best candidate to lead the city through ongoing and future development," said Mayor Bob Maloney.
"She has experience in both the private and public sector and has shown great dedication to our city through her many years as director of finance."
With the help of Waterhouse Executive Search, the city considered a total of six candidates for the position from Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.
Maloney said Kaal's knowledge of the city was definitely an advantage, but that the ultimate deciding factor for Council was her professionalism during the interview process.
"She knocked it out of the park," he said. "She impressed all of us with what she's willing to put into the job."
Kaal was overjoyed by winning the competition.
"I am excited to work with Council in this new role and feel rewarded for the opportunity they have given me," she said.
"I look forward to building on our city's strengths to position us well into the future."
