On Saturday, October 21, 2017, several local Dubucites joined the Potashville Singles Club to celebrate all the work that has been done at the Dubuc Memorial Hall and to thank the Potashville Singles for their usage of the hall and continued support

The City of Yorkton and Parkland College have signed a new lease on almost 100 acres of agriculture land near the city. The donated land is used by the College for applied research and revenue generation.

Kids and parents can expect some new help when they cross the street on Gladstone Avenue South after school. Yorkdale Central School has launched a safety patrol program, which started on Oct. 19 as part of Education Week.

The new Yorkton Hyundai Room was officially opened Monday at Jowsey House in the city. The room was made possible through efforts of the Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer program, thanks to funding from Yorkton Hyundai.

In 1920, Yorkton was dry. As part of the Canadian liquor plebiscite, Saskatchewan voted in favor of a ban on the importation of wine and liquor, with Yorkton and Mackenzie both putting their votes in the dry column.

A former Yorktonite is taking her knack for glamour and eloquence to the international stage. Holly Weselowski is heading to China to compete in the annual Mrs. Globe pageant in December. “I’ve never been to Asia,” Weselowski said.

The organization formerly known as the Saskatchewan Abilities Council Inc. has unveiled its new name. Dropping many letters from its moniker, it is now called SaskAbilities.

SaskPower is encouraging businesses to invest time and money into cutting back on energy costs. Representatives from SaskPower spoke at a Yorkton Chamber of Commerce (YCC) luncheon on Oct. 17.

Kids watched from behind yellow tape as their classmate slipped on a pair of sunglasses, a welder’s helmet, and heavy-duty gloves. Sparks flew as he used a welding striker on a piece of metal. A professional welder guided his aim.

The Sunrise Health Region has received $95,000 in fines in response to Occupational Safety and Health violations, including one that resulted in serious injuries to an employee. The fines were issued in Yorkton Provincial Court on Monday, October 20.
