Park sites getting electricity upgrade

Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty has announced that 88 campsites will receive electrical service at Candle Lake Provincial Park and Greenwater Lake Provincial Park this year.

Senior programs get enhancements

Enhancements to the Seniors Income Plan (SIP) and the Personal Care Home Benefit (PCHB) will improve the quality of life for low income seniors in Saskatchewan. Benefit increases for both programs will go into effect on July 1, 2013.

Each month a male and a female student is selected as the SHHS Saint of the Month. Saint of the Month students are nominated by staff and students of SHHS. Kaitlyn Inglis is a very friendly person who can strike up a conversation with anyone.

Record population

Saskatchewan's population grew by 4,073 in the first quarter of 2013 to reach a new all-time high of 1,093,880. Saskatchewan's rate of growth continues to be the second-fastest among all the provinces, behind only Alberta.

Flood issues remain

Although the spring melt is over, a number of Saskatchewan communities are still dealing with flood-related issues due to the above normal runoff. This situation has been made worse by heavy rainfall in certain areas.

Aboriginal heritage on display

Dr. Brass School held Aboriginal Day activities Thursday afternoon. Included in the day was a drum group from Cote First Nations, as well as dancers from the school, and invited guest dancers.

Recognition given

The Saltcoats Housing Authority Board of Directors hosted a special event to honour one of its members for long service. Edith Maddaford has served as a volunteer for fifteen years and will continue on the board in her position as Chairperson.
