Avid archers were encouraged to aim at numerous 3-D animal targets during the two-day 3-D archery shoot near Preeceville on August 15 and 16.
The shoot attracted 110 archers from across the area that included, Regina, Yorkton, Esterhazy, Churchbridge, Saskatoon, Hudson Bay, Rose Valley, Canora, Arcola, Watson, Stoughton, Melville, Ebenezer and Stockholm as well as the Sturgis and Preeceville local area.
Archers had the opportunity to walk two courses, each with its own challenges. Targets were set up in realistic areas. The types of targets included: bear, turkeys, wild boars, panther, cougars, elk, deer, antelope, moose, a large mosquito and an alligator.
There was a iron buck novelty shoot that featured archers shooting at an iron outline of a buck at different distances. Steven Geistlinger was the winner of the Hoyt bow when he hit it from 90 yards. Kaiden Masley was the junior winner of a block target.
Randy Bileski of Preeceville won the raffle prize of an autographed Saskatchewan Roughrider jersey, Jodi Mastrachuk won the $100 Under Armour gift certificate and Myrtle Boychuk won the $50 Coop gift certifi cate. Alex Dergousoff won the 50/50 prize. A steak supper concluded the shoot on Saturday evening.
Prior to handing out medals, Brad Cameron acknowledged Mark Huska for using his land for the shoot, archers who participated, sponsors, the Sturgis Archery Club members, and individuals who helped with kitchen, registration and shuttle services.
Medals were handed out for first to third place in eight men’s and women’s categories and five youth categories.
In the youth categories, junior compound male division for a two-day total of 695, Steven Geistlinger of Preeceville won a gold medal. Bo Babiuk of Sturgis won silver with 686 total points and Andrew Witwicki of Canora won a bronze medal for 368 points.
In the cub compound male division, Carter Masley of Sturgis was the gold medal winner with a total 766 points. Gavin Swiderski of Invermay was the silver medal winner with 724 points and Connor Nagy of Preeceville won bronze with 508 points.
In the peewee compound female division, Elly Belesky of High Prairie won gold with 577 points. Nikala Edwards of Hudson Bay won silver with 557 points and Cierra Bocking of Lintlaw won bronze with 353 points.
In the peewee compound male division, Mathew Makowsky of Canora won gold with a 716 two-day total. Trae Peterson of Sturgis won silver with 461 points and Cole Masley of Sturgis won bronze with 459 points.
Jordan Makowsky of Canora won the peewee recurve division with 645 points. In the precub compound male division, Evan Bochnuik of Preeceville was the gold medal winner with a twoday total of 699. Both of Sturgis, Kaiden Masley won silver and Skylar Ryczak won bronze with scores of 561.
In the pre-cub compound female division, Brynn Babiuk of Sturgis won gold with a score of 552. Jillian Tonn of Preeceville won silver with 488 points and Kylie Babiuk of Sturgis won bronze with 405 points.
In the cub compound female division, Larrisa Makowsky of Canora won gold with a score of 758 points, Lilanne Edwards of Hudson Bay won silver for a score of 568 and Amber Nicholauson of Esterhazy won bronze with a score of 258 points.
In the cadet compound male division, Cole Bilanchuk of Sturgis won gold with a score of 624. Both of Stoughton, Andrew Sawchuk won silver with 612 points and Dawson Sawchuk won bronze with 589 points. In the female division, Georgia Edwards of Hudson Bay won gold with a score of 640.
Brittany Skolney of Kelvingon won silver with 461 points and Kaeley Neitling of Preeceville won bronze with 275 points.
In the hunter male division, Jeremy Edwards of Hudson Bay won gold with a two-day total of 780 points. Dallas Hydamaka of Saskatoon won silver with 741 points and Dean Bocking of Lintlaw won bronze with 693 points.
Shelley Barabash of Preeceville won the bow hunter open female division with 337 points. The master compound 50 male division was won by Brad Cameron of Sturgis with a two-day total of 697 points. Orest Belesky of Preeceville won silver with 693 points and Earl Bochnuik of Preeceville won bronze with 658 points.
Brad Daisley of Sturgis won the hunter fingers male division with a score of 400. Garth Erbach of Melville won silver with 266 points and Darrel Fiala of Saskatoon won bronze with 262 points.
In the master compound 60 male division, Bill Karapita of Regina won gold with 725 points and Merle Bass of Yorkton won silver with 286 points.
Clint Belesky of High Prairie won the bow hunter open male category with a two-day total of 733 points. Noah Tonn of Preeceville won silver with 717 points and Ryan Karapita of Regina won bronze with 680 points.
Belinda Bocking of Lintlaw won gold in the hunter female category for a two-day total of 581 points. Carey Nicholauson of Esterhazy won silver with 276 points and Joanne Pearce of Yorkton won bronze with 234 points.
